Pamper yourself this winter with a few natural beauty remedies. Guranteed organic because you know exactly what’s in them. Most of us will have some of the ingredients at home but if not they are easy to buy. Read and inwardly digest, at least through your skin that is!

Simple Honey Cleanser

Here's a recipe for a simple, yet effective daily face cleanser using honey.
For normal skin choose Clover honey, for combination/oily choose Orange Blossom.

Simply wet face with warm water. Take a face cloth, wet and apply approximately 1 teaspoon of honey. Apply to skin working gently in circular motions. Rinse with tepid to warm water. That's it! Honey is naturally anti-bacterial and is a natural humectant. If you eat a little along the way, then that’s all to the good!

General Moisturizer for All Skin Types

Jojoba oil is the queen of moisturizers. For the record, Jojoba is a liquid wax, not an oil. It comes from the Jojoba bean and its "oil" most closely resembles human sebum (our own skin's oil that's produced in youth). The bodily readily absorbs it and few have negative reactions to jojoba. Jojoba does not block pores.

To use: Take a few drops and apply to a damp face as you would any other moisturizer to face, neck or body (key: apply to a `damp face as the water helps the jojoba to absorb into the skin faster) The jojoba helps to trap the water in the skin acting as a humectant. To personalize your moisturizer, you can add a few drops of essential oil such as a drop of tea tree for combination/troubled skin, sandalwood for mature skin or lavender for normal skin.

Avocado and Buttermilk Mask

This quick, simple mask leaves skin velvety soft!

Mash together half a very ripe avocado and enough buttermilk to create a creamy paste. (take the rest and make guacamole) Apply to face and throat in upward strokes. If possible, take a few minutes and lie in the sunlight or in a warm room to allow the avocado to warm and penetrate the skin. Enjoy your guacamole with a few organic tortilla chips. Rinse face with tepid to warm water after 20-30 minutes.

Easy Uses for Epsom Salts

Here's a natural product that most of us have in our bathroom cupboard. Traditionally used for baths, this soothing mineral crystal eases pain and draws out impurities. Here are some other ways to gain the benefits of this plentiful and inexpensive product. (Tips are courtesy of the Epsom Salt Industry Council).

Add Body to Your Hair

Combine 3 tablespoons of deep conditioner with 3 tablespoons of Epsom Salt. Microwave the mixture for 20 seconds. Work the warm mixture through your hair from scalp to ends and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Promotes body and life in your hair and restores curl to permed hair.

Dislodge Blackheads

Add 1 teaspoon of Epsom Salt and three drops of iodine to 1/2 cup of boiling water. After the mixture has cooled a bit, dip strips of cotton into the solution and apply to the problem area.

Repeat three or four times, reheating the solution if necessary. Then, gently unclog your pore, and go over the area with an alcohol-based astringent.

First Aid for Splinters, Scrapes and Insect Bites

The concentrated power of a warm Epsom Salt compress draws toxins and sweat away from pores, reducing the swelling of minor bites and scrapes. This drawing action also helps bring splinters to the skin's surface. And a cold Epsom Salt compress can take the sting out of insect bites.

Remove Hairspray and Gel Buildup

Combine a gallon of distilled water, a cup of lemon juice (fresh or bottled), and 1 cup of Epsom Salt. Cap the mixture and let it sit for 24 hours. The next day, pour the mixture into your dry hair and let it sit for 20 minutes. Then shampoo as normal.

Smoother Softer Skin

To cleanse and exfoliate, massage handfuls of Epsom Salt over your wet skin, starting with the feet and continuing up toward the face. Then, pour two cups into a bath of warm water. Lean back and relax. As you soak, the natural action of Epsom Salt helps soften the rough, dry patches of your skin.
