Airfield, Dundrum

Airfield has become a popular venue for Arts, Culture, Environmental & Children’s Events, with its intimate setting and beautiful surroundings. Within easy reach of the city and just minutes from Dundrum shopping centre, this oasis of calm provides the perfect venue for entertainment or as an environmental educational centre for adults and children.

Airfield’s 19th century house is surrounded by ornate gardens and stunning grounds. Formally the home of the Overend sisters, the estate was left for the public to enjoy under the auspice of the Airfield Charitable Trust.

As a teaching garden & farm, Airfield also includes exciting
learning opportunities for children with workshops, on-site
classrooms, holiday camps and childrenís theatre.

Day visitors to Airfield can participate in garden tours, an
inspirational programme of workshops and training in all aspects of traditional gardening - for the accomplished gardener and
beginners alike.

An average of 50,000 visit Airfield each year to enjoy an extensive programme of events which includes evening concerts, art
exhibitions, theatre performances, educational talks and hands-on gardening & environmental workshops. Visitors also enjoy the ambience of the Overend’s Restaurant. Overlooking the gardens, the restaurant is popular as a place to meet friends for morning coffee & scones or for a delicious, wholesome lunch.

Whether enjoying the natural wildlife and beauty of Airfield’s
spectacular gardens and Dublin’s only urban farm or being
entertained by Airfield’s varied programme of events, adults and children continue to benefit from Airfieldís perfect setting.

Airfield also holds various interesting gatherings for children. The Young Naturalists Club’s is one such meet which is held during a morning and is themed on collecting and naming plants, birds and small creatures.
Young naturalists will also learn how to identify plants and insects using lenses and microscopes.

Nature detectives with Micahel Jacob is another popular,
incidental event.
This introduces children from age 6 to 11 to the wonders of bugs, bats, birds and other creepie crawlies!.
This encourage young people to get up close to nature and plants and find out a little about their
respective habitats. In fact it is claimed there is something different every time you come!

A chance to meet the animals on a Sunday afternoon tour of the farm. Suits old and young, this one and takes place regardless of weather for real authenticity! You are advised to come prepared with a coat and wellies.

In fact there is always something of interest at Airfield, whether it is a themed event or a seasonal workshop.
